It turns out friends are really good for you.
A few months ago, I came across a study that highlights the importance of friendships to adult mental health. It didn’t seem like a groundbreaking discovery tbh, but it got me thinking about how much harder it is to maintain friendships as we get older. More responsibility (school, work, kids, life) means less time for friends.
Connecting with loved ones is good for your well-being—and theirs. This Mental Health Awareness Month, Rare Beauty is asking you to reach out and tell someone you’re thinking of them. Join us in spreading warm wishes. Here’s how:
Supplies: Postcard, pen, stamp
How to: Put a few heartfelt words on paper (helpful outline below). Add a stamp and drop your note in the mail.
Effort level: 3/10
Feel-good factor: 10/10
At the Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit on May 1, we invited our community to send postcards to anyone they’re thinking about.
My postcards went to my two best friends and my mom (hope the mail’s delivered before they see this).
“I’d send a note to my long distance best friend. We don’t get to see each other often but always have the best time when we get together. I’d definitely send my warm wishes her way.” - Kira Cyan, artist behind our “Ladybug Lovers” card on Paperless Post.
Supplies: Phone or computer
How to: Go to Paperless Post to see our collection of virtual cards in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. Add a meaningful message (see above) and hit “send.”
Effort level: 1/10
Feel-good factor: Also 10/10
“I’d send warm wishes to my middle school teacher, Nancy. Her support and mentorship over the years has given me the confidence to be who I am.” - Zoë Cain, artist behind our “Groovy Patchwork” card on Paperless Post.
Consider this newsletter your sign to reach out to someone you care about. You won’t regret it.
