Desk Diaries
Welcome to the most personal spots in our office
If you work in the western world, there’s a good chance you work in an office—and spend about 40% of your time there.* With so much time in one place, it makes sense that the space itself could impact your mental wellbeing. The right one can combat burnout, encourage social support, and even impact organizational success.
Last week we showed you how Selena’s office reflects who she is, with family photos and personal sticky notes adorning various surfaces. Our Rare Beauty team treats each desk the same way, like a practical means of self-expression. There’s something special about walking into your little corner of the office and feeling at home. (I don’t have any official stats, but I can attest to its positive impact).
I asked our Summer Associate, Rachel, to take you on a tour of the desks that most reflect their owners. Here’s what she found.

We’re kicking it off with the undisputed “Best Desk” titleholder. Do yourself a favor and zoom in. We’ll give you a moment to digest.
The best HR teams know how to lighten the mood.
The amount of color coordination going on here is unmatched. “We all have that one friend who’s effortlessly a living, breathing Pinterest board,” says Rachel. Megan is ours.
“The ‘go girl give us nothing’ of desks,” says Rachel. “(Just kidding, we love our accounting team!)”.

“I know nothing about the orange creature that haunts the entire creative department, except that he has charmed me greatly,” Rachel explains.
A little sliver of my space, with family photos, postcards, and the one plant I’ve ever managed to keep alive.
Helen didn’t want me to take a picture of her office because it’s “a mess.” (She keeps the rest of us in check!)
Joyce’s office rivals MoMA (working parents will relate).
